Abel "Billy" William Vigil Jr.

Abel Billy Vigil Jr, age 82, of Glorieta, NM was called to heaven on October 24, 2015. Abel Vigil was born March 28, 1933 in Pecos, NM to Benigna and Abel Vigil Sr. Abel was preceded in death by his infant son Lawrence Vigil; Parents Benigna Bowles- Vigil and Abel Vigil Sr. Abel Vigil was survived by his children Billy Vigil of Santa Fe, Matthew Vigil (Roxanne) of Glorieta, Daughters Danielle Vigil, and Rosemary Salinas (Manuel); Grandchildren Dominique Salinas and Noah Salinas; Brother Joe F. Vigil and sister-in-law Mela; Nephew Joe Jr. and Kenn Vigil; Cousin Pitacio Vigil Abel decided at the age of 17 to serve our county by joining the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was able to travel all over the world, including places like Japan. After completing his services in Air Force he joined the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Mr. Vigil was a very active member which led to him becoming commander. Mr. Vigil always wanted to give back to his community any way he could. So it was no surprise when he volunteered to become a Foster Grandparent at the Pecos Elementary School. Many from the schools knew him as Grandpa Billy. Over the many years he spent at the school, he was able to share his amazing love and talent for art. He loved drawing for the kids. Not only was Mr. Vigil an amazing artist, he was also a carpenter, mechanic, gardener, and a comedian. He was always laughing, and making jokes whenever he had a chance. He will be remembered for many things, especially his art/paintings. Our family would like to thank Mr. Valencia for bringing our dad communion every Sunday. And a special thank you to Mr. Pitacio Vigil for always visiting dad. Pallbearers: Joe Vigil Jr., Kenn Vigil, Manuel Salinas, Nick Montoya, Abe Baldonado, and Miguel Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers are Noah Salinas and Dominique Salinas and Pecos Independent Schools. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 7:00pm St. Anthony Church (Pecos)A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 9:00am St Anthony Church (Pecos) followed by interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:15am
