Talachy, Adam Rene “Baggs”, age 58, of Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, and subsequently laid to rest on December 23, 2023. Adam was born on April 16, 1965, to Faustin Louie and Leona Talachy. He graduated from Espanola Valley High School in 1983 and went on to study at New Mexico State University (NMSU).
Adam is preceded in death by his father Faustin Louie Talachy, paternal grandparents Faustin and Antonia Talachy, his maternal grandparents Felix and Edna Rabanal. Uncles Harold Talachy, Lloyd Rabanal, Leonard Rabanal, and Aunt Glenora “Shorty” Rabanal.
Adam spent his youth playing sports and being a tutor for Native American students during and after his high school years. After high school, he attended NMSU, where he then went on to join the United States Army. Adam was a true Jack of all trades where he worked as a technician, surveillance supervisor, roofer, a wastewater operator, and as a pizza pie baker. He particularly enjoyed spending time out on the baseball fields whether it was coaching or umpiring. Baggs was an avid player and coach for men’s and youth baseball/softball. In his later years he was an umpire for youth and adult games. He touched the lives of many through the years. Adam had a silly giggle that many of us knew uniquely as Baggs.
Adam especially enjoyed fishing and was always ready to grab the rod and hit the stream or lake. He was respectful of his native heritage, from Ohkay Owingeh and the Yakama Nation. Perhaps most significant he lived his life with an optimistic attitude that was unwavering. No matter the circumstance, challenge, or difficulty, he was facing, he was always positive about life. This optimistic attitude can be summed up in a verse from a song that he liked (Bob Marley – Three Little Birds): "Don't Worry about a thing because every little thing is going be all right".
Adam is survived by his wife Lourdes Talachy, daughters Taneshia Talachy of Denver, and Karen Talachy of Albuquerque, grandchildren Aiden Talachy, Kika Galvan, Cyrus Galvan, Kailea Talachy, and River Talachy, Mother Leona Talachy, brother Stacey Talachy, sister Monica and husband Nicodemus Montoya, nephews Mekelis Talachy, Kordero Talachy, and Jovan Spencer.
Adam was a son, brother, father, husband, grandfather, godfather, nephew, cousin, and a friend to many. Farewell and Godspeed to you.
Many thanks to the Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Administration, Rivera Family Funeral Home, San Juan Bautista Parish, pallbearers, and to everyone who united in sympathy and support as we bid Adam farewell. A special thanks to Ron and Diane Lovato.
