Adonais “Marro” Montono was born in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico on July 4, 1937. He passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2025. He graduated from Taos High School and subsequently enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country for four years. Upon returning to Taos, he commenced work as a welder at the Moly Mines in Questa, New Mexico where he continued until his retirement. Additionally, he attended the University of New Mexico Taos, pursuing studies in carpentry and wood carving.
Adonais is preceded in death by his wife, Suzy Montano, father Ino Montano, Mother Cora Montano, Brothers Gilbert Montano and Johnny Montano, niece Elizabeth “Lisa” Montano and Nephew James Vigil, brother-in-law Robert Gonzales, sister-in-law Ernestine Cardenas, stepson Sonny Nichols, stepdaughter Gloria Martinez, and great-grandson baby James Salazar.
Surviving him are his children, Mario Montano and Eleanor Montano, stepchildren John Gonzales (Teddie), Frank Nichols (Jennifer), Gerald Nichols (Louella), Linda Vigil (Paul) granddaughter Carmen Barrera (Mathew), great grandson Lorenzo Sedillo, sister Tillie Montano, siter-in-laws Elaine Montano and Cecilia Montano, along with many nephews, nieces, step- grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Holy Trinity Church in Arroyo Seco.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, followed by burial at Sierra Vista Cemetery in Taos.
