Adonario “Horsey” Gallegos, 91, born in Cerro, NM on September 1, 1925, passed away on January 9, 2017. He was a World War II Veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a part of the 4th Marine Division who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was very active in the community and enjoyed politics. He participated in public service by serving on several boards and was a proud officer in the local union during his working years at Molycorp. He was known around town sharing his stories of life and putting smiles on people’s faces. He will be dearly missed by many and forever loved. He is preceded in death by his wife Petronila Gallegos and 2 sons Johnny and Joey, parents, Beatriz & Amado Quintana and Gil Blas Gallegos, sisters, Tillie, Emily, Mercy, Nora, brothers, Arsenio, Crisiforo, Joe and Duby. He is survived by his children, Rosie (Modesto), Donna (Mario), Sherry, Louise, Donald (Patricia), Ronnie (Mary), Connie (Steven), 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way, sisters, Utilia, Mayo, Betty (Marvin), Loveida (David), Ruth (Tom), Jean (Arnold), Pat (Charles), Edna, Joyce and Carolyn (Barlo), brothers, Alonzo (Irene), Frank, Lucio, Gil (Margaret) and Albert.
Rosary was recited on January 11, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Questa. Funeral mass was held on January 12, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cerro. Interment was held at the Cerro Cemetery.
Taking him to his final resting place, serving as pallbearers are Isaac and Martin Cisneros, Antonio and Gabriel Trujillo, Dean Max Martinez, Joey Cintas, and honorary pallbearers are the rest of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

We were deeply touched by the calls, the visits, the food, your thoughts, prayers, kind words, words of encouragements, and the monetary donations. We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives.
We also want to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the following: The Questa Fire Department, first responders, Mikey, Austin and Juan Carlos, your prompt response gave us time to be with Daddy before he died, God Bless and keep you safe in the work that you do. The staff at Holy Cross Hospital who thoughtfully took care of him, yes even the ‘vampires’. The ambulance staff who transported him from Taos to Santa Fe, Christus St. Vincent, wonder what stories he had for you or maybe joked around a bit. The staff at Christus St. Vincent for the care and compassionate support that you gave not just to Daddy, but us as well, it was very comforting. You knew his time was short and you treated him and us with kindness and compassion, THANK YOU. To Rivera Funeral Home for bringing Daddy from Santa Fe and to his final resting place. Thank you for also treating us in a caring, courteous and professional manner. Father Dennis Garcia for a beautiful funeral service and Deacon Marcus Rael for the beautiful wake service, the service(s) you performed offered inspiration and comfort to all who were present. Tia Betty, Tia Lova and Irma for the beautiful rosary recitation. Malaquias (Mally) Rael Jr. for the wonderful Eulogy, you did a great job. The Pedegrinos for the beautiful music for both the wake service and funeral service. Leroy’s Excavating and the Pallbearers (anyone else who helped) in preparing Daddy’s final resting place, you did an awesome job. Fernandez de Taos VFW Post 3259, funeral detail for providing Daddy with his military funeral honors. Semper Fi. The friendship circle who prepared a wonderful meal for us to share with everyone. We hope no one was omitted and if so, please accept our apologies and know that we are thankful.
To all the people who gave their time to him, whether picking up his mail, stopping at gas stations, the grocery store, family dollar, El Monte Carlo, the Wildcat’s Den, Primetime Pizza, PEOPLES, QCU, Pendleton, barber, the chicken ladies and sooooo many more( you know who you are). You all made his days happy and full and for that, WE THANK YOU. To all the people who were promised a bus ride to the Bahamas if he won the Lottery, sorry……
Once again, please accept our wholehearted gratitude and appreciation for being there to console and support us during our loss. We will always treasure your expressions of sympathy. We pray that God will continue to bless, guide and protect you all.
