Alan Mota Taggart: April 15, 1920-May 05, 2008
Alan M. Taggart, age 88, passed away peacefully May 5, 2008 at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, NM. He was born in Merriman Nebraska, the second of three sons to Chris Taggart and Mary Foss Taggart. He spent most of his childhood in Denver, Colorado.
In 1937, Alan enlisted in the United States Navy and served throughout WWII, taking part in the North African, Mediterranean, and Pacific campaigns. After discharge in 1945, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. During this same period, he met Cleotilde Ortiz and they were married in Salt Lake City in 1948. Together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage raising two daughters, Theresa and Laura.
Alan and Cleo moved to live in Santa Rosa, California in the early 50's where Alan was hired by the Sonoma County Probation Department. He served as a probation officer in the adult division, and eventually head of the department until his retirement in 1979. During his career in public service, Alan distinguished himself by his leadership and contributions to the county legal system.
In his retirement, Alan enjoyed time with family, gardening, and traveling abroad. He was an avid reader all his life and turned to writing his own short fictional stories in his later years. He was a devoted, loving husband and father and will be remembered by family and friends for his kind nature and independent thinking. Alan is survived by his wife, Cleo Taggart (Santa Fe, NM), daughters Theresa S. Taggart (Taos, NM) and Laura M. Taggart (Phoenix, AZ) and brother Thomas Taggart (Denver, Co).
He is interred at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
