Alferino Martinez

Alferino J. Martinez, 86, of Chamisal passed away on June 26, 2019.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Martinez, their children, Andres, Gerald, Filemon and Christine, parents, Beroniz and Esquipula Martinez, brothers, Jose, Armando and sister, Adelina, in-laws, Cleofas and Adauto Romero, Nicomedies, Matilde (Moses) Esiquiel, Juan, Frances (Romaldo Romero), Precedes Adolfo Martinez and Olivas Maes.  He is survived by his daughter, Anna (David), their 3 boys, David Jr., Damien and Adam Lucero, daughter, Priscilla (James), their 2 boys, Adrian and Jamey Aaron, daughter, Josephine, son, Dennis Martinez (Ashley) and his children, Miranda, Gabriella, Dennis Jr., Daniella and Angelina, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters, Helen Martinez, Carol Lopez and Isabel Maes, brother, Henry Martinez and numerous other relatives and friends.  Alferino worked in the Railroads, traveling throughout the Western United States and in the potato and mine fields.  He retired from the U.S. Forest Service as a Park Ranger and Firefighter.  He was a volunteer Firefighter/Search & Rescue.  He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbas, The Hermanos and Bible study group.  He enjoyed singing in church and could often be heard whistling hymns throughout his work day. 

Rosary will be recited on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 6 PM at Rivera Chapel.  Second rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 6 PM  San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco.                                                                                                                                               Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 11 AM at San Antonio de Padua church with interment following at the Upper Chamisal Cemetery Pallbearers will be Adrian and Jamey Aaron, David Jr., Damian and Adam Lucero and Dennis Martinez Jr.  Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home, Taos.  To share a memory, please visit our website at www.riverafuneralhome.com
