Alfonsita Barela

Alfonsita (Pita) Barela Age 74 of Santa Fe, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2010. She died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness. Pita was born in Gilman, CO in 1935. She was raised in Penasco, NM along with her brothers and sisters. She moved to Santa Fe, NM and had nine children. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was a loving person with a warm hearth and loved her family. She worked for the State of New Mexico General Services Department at the Bataan Memorial Building until retirement. She was preceded in death by three of her children, Bobby, Ernest Wayne, and John Charles Barela; her father Eli Muniz, Sr. and her mother Pablita Muniz; her sister Delia Longworth of Ohio. She is survived by her brothers Fred Muniz of Santa Fe; Eli Muniz Jr. and wife Karen of Pleasonton, CA; sister Mary Olague and husband Daniel of Santa Fe; sister Annie Subotich and husband Ralph of Houston, TX; husband John C. Barela of Santa Fe, daughter Geraldine Martinez and grandson Raymond Martinez; son Joe and wife Shirley and grandsons Jericho and Jordan Barela; son Anthony Barela and wife Carolyn Truesdell of Albuquerque, NM; son Tom and wife Carla and grandchildren Conner and Camyrn of Corrales, NM; son Kenneth and wife Terese; son Ronald and grandsons Gabriel and Jeremy Barela. She is survived by many other family members and friends. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the caregivers Nina Cruz and Dixie Selph who took wonderful care of her during her illness. Pita will be dearly missed by all her family. A visition and rosary service is being planned for this week, dates and times pending. Interment will follow in Penasco, New Mexico at a later date.
