Alfred Martinez

September 16, 1950 — December 27, 2015

Alfred Anthony Martinez, at the young age of 65 left us to be with our Lord on December 27, 2015. He is from beautiful northern New Mexico where he called the vast blue skies and Mora mountain ranges of Springer home. He is proceeded in death by his parents Alfred & Antonita Martinez and brother Arthur Lawrence Martinez. He later moved to Santa Fe where he lived life to the fullest. He fathered and is survived by four children; Marti Lea, Antonio, Juan Carlos, and Patricia Cristiana. He had two granddaughters, Kailea & Jada and one great grandson, Alec Eric. He loved his kids! Alfred was in a long term relationship with his girlfriend and dear friend, Amy Jimenez of Santa Fe. The two really loved each other and did everything together, like the song Ando Buscando un Amor. Alfred early in life grew up on a ranch in Agua Dulce, also known as Sweetwater, NM, near Charette Lakes and later moved into the town of Springer. He graduated from Springer High School and enrolled into the Army where he served 20 years in various roles but his prized effort up to his honorable discharge was becoming a chef. He loved to cook! Alfred, also, in those 20 years managed two Skaggs Alpha Beta stores in Santa Fe, being one of the top ten managers for the company. He retired from Skaggs and joined the State of New Mexico in various roles where he retired as a statewide Nutritional Consultant for the Indian Pueblos with the Department of Aging and Long Term Services. Alfred enjoyed helping people. This was one of his passions. Generous with his time and not leaving until the job was done, he always was positive and encouraging through his words, smiled no matter the situation and had an ambitious attitude that nothing was impossible and everything was attainable. His demeanor was powered with the Glory of God. Alfred was a member of the Caballeros de Vargas, a member of the Knights of Columbus, an honorary member of the Catholic Daughters, a member of the Children of Mary, a member of the American Legion, and retired Army veteran. Please join Alfred and his family on January 5, 2015 at Santa Maria de la Paz at 9:30 a.m. for his rosary conducted by the Caballeros de Vargas; at 11:00 a.m. for his mass performed by Father Daniel, and at 12:45 p.m. at the National Cemetery for his military salute. Reception and celebration of his life will follow after at Santa Maria de la Paz reception hall. Thank you. We look forward to seeing you.
