ALICE DUNAY MARTINEZ
On December 18, 2018, Alice D. Martinez, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home in Taos, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 20, 1923, the youngest of 12 children, Alice arrived in Taos at age 23. She came with a B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and began her nursing career at the Health Center at Taos Pueblo. Later, she spent 35 years as School Nurse with the Taos Municipal Schools, caring for the many students attending Taos schools. She was always knowledgeable and performed her job in a professional, loving manner. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, George Dunay and Elizabeth Micak Dunay; her husband, Adolfo D. Martinez; her daughter, Emilia E. Martinez; and all of her brothers and sisters. Alice is survived by her daughters, Veronica Martinez and Georgiana Martinez Montoya (Art); sons Michael Martinez (Barbara), Karl Martinez (Becky), and Lucas Martinez (Carla); and grandchildren Michele Gustafson (Charlie), Jennifer Martinez (Bryan Archuleta), Olivia Garcia (Juan), and their families, Andres Romero and his family, Patrick Romero, and LeAnn Olonia,; and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Alice enjoyed caring for her family, baking, and going to bingo. She was a devout Catholic, and sang in the choir and served as a counter and mayordomo at various times at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos, where she was a member for all of her 72 years in Taos.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, December 21, 2019 at 6 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Taos. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10 AM with interment to follow at the Las Cruces Cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
