Allen Vigil “Alan", 65, of La Loma, Taos, NM, passed away, November 19, 2015 at his home, surrounded by family. Allen was born to the late Bences and Fabiola Vigil. Ben and Fabby also raised four other sons, James (d.) (Gloria), Jerome (Kitty), Mario (Carla), Keith (Liz). Allen is preceded in death by his older brother; James, infant brother; Marcus Allen, parents; Bences and Fabiola Vigil, maternal grandparents, Luciano and Floraida Martinez, paternal grandparents; Juan Nepomuceno and Domitila Vigil. Allen attended Taos area schools, where he excelled in academics and athletics, including Central Catholic and Taos High, where he graduated in 1967. Allen went on to the University of New Mexico, where he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Regional and Community Planning. On June 28, 1974 he married Geraldine of Albuquerque, and brought her to Taos to raise a family and serve his community. Together, they raised six children: Ariana Delmerico (Paul), Jenina Daugherty (Sean), Natalia Vigil, Alicia Vigil (Jake), Alanna Vigil (Damon), Marcos Vigil. Allen served Taos through his implementation of Master Planning and Community Design; employed by the Town of Taos and Taos County Governments. Later in life, Allen went back to UNM, where he earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration. Honored many times, Allen earned numerous awards for his dedication to Taos. Some of which include, the 2011 "Historian of the Year" by the Taos County Historic Society, and "Allen Vigil Day" (May 10, 2011), designated by Town of Taos. From designation and preservation of historic landmarks, to playing annually at the "Fiestas de Taos", he believed strongly in celebrating the treasures Taos has to offer. One of the traits Allen will be remembered for, is his beautiful music, playing in the Zozobra, the Zorbas, Vito y Alan, and Fuego Bands, and of course, the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Parish choir for over 37 years. Allen and Choir, recently completed a project he held dear, "Hazme Instrumento de tu Paz", a CD of traditional Spanish hymns for the San Francisco Parish. He worked very hard to support his large family, often working as Planner by day and a Musician at night. But his true passion, was his love for his wife, children and grandchildren, Briana Torres (Carlos), Adelina Tafoya, Allen-John Delmerico, and Evan and Sloane Deveaux. He is also survived by, mother-in-law; Irene Martinez-Stewart; father-in-law; Gilbert Black Sr., brothers and sisters in-laws; Stephen and Glenna Lopez, Gilbert Black, Ronnie Black, Norbert Black (Melinda)d., Jackie and Roger Haynes, Martin Serda; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. Honorary pall-bearers are: Anthony Naranjo, Adrian Lopez, Brandon Vigil, Nicholas and Ryan Lucero, and Patrick Martinez, and Victor Trujillo III. A Rosary, will be held at 6pm, Tuesday, November 24th and Catholic Funeral Mass at 11am, on Wednesday, November 25th. Both will be held at San Francisco de Asis, a reception will follow from 1-4 at the El Taoseno Hall.The Family of Allen would like to thank the Community he loved, for their outpouring of love, prayers, and support.
