Alonzo Valdez, 71, of Arroyo Seco, passed away on July 31, 2023. He was in his home and surrounded by his family. We are deeply saddened and he will be greatly missed. Alonzo was one of the strongest men we have known. During his lifetime, he faced so many tragedies and difficulties, but his faith always carried him along and he managed to move through his life with a smile, sense of humor and positive attitude. In 1994, Alonzo lost the love of his life, Elaine Valdez. In 1995, he was in an ATV accident that left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair. These were two life-changing and devastating events, but Alonzo was so creative and strong-minded he accepted the path that was set forth for him with zeal and determination. He remained as independent as possible and always worked hard to figure out new ways to do things for himself. Even though he lost the functionality of his hands, he began painting and created beautiful works of art. He shared his gift with his family and oftentimes donated his artwork to help friends who were holding raffles or events. Alonzo was someone who always remembered your birthday, who called to connect with you, who could always make you laugh with one of his jokes and someone who brought so much joy and laughter into our lives.
Alonzo is preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Valdez, grandparents, Marcario and Manuelita Fresquez, mother, Teresina Fresquez, father, Jose Valdez, mother in law, Elvira Garcia, father in law, Fidel Garcia, brothers, Juan and Robert Fresquez, Steve and Carlos Valdez.
