Alton Daffin

Alton Loren Daffin, Jr,  born November 7th, 1943, passed awaypeacefully on January 14, 2023. Dementia took his short term memorybut never robbed him of his humor, kindness to others and strong faithin God.Al grew up in Moss Point, MS, son of Alton and Bertie Mae Daffin.After graduating from Mississippi State University with a major inAccounting and as a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, he took a jobwith International Paper as a CPA. He soon proved his talent in thefinance department and was transferred to the Manhattan office andtook his young family to live in Darien, CT. The family enjoyed 11years in Darien before moving south to Houston, TX, still with IP.  Hewas next recruited to Pittsburgh, PA, where he served as CFO of JoyTechnologies, taking pride in his work.After retiring, while living back in the Houston area, Al visitedTaos, NM, to escape the heat and fell in love with the high desertbeauty. He surprised his family by declaring he was buying a secondhome there during his second visit to Taos. He and his wife latermoved to McKinney, TX, and were blessed to be able to go back andforth from McKinney to Taos, between daughters and especially thegrandkids! He was an active member of the First United MethodistChurch in both McKinney and Taos.Al will always be remembered for his immense love of nature, afulfilling and successful career in finance which took him around theworld, and his enjoyment of music, skiing, golf and his beloved dogs.He was a loving husband, a nurturing father and a really fun granddad.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Carpenter Daffin, ofSanta Fe, NM, his daughter, Alison Montgomery (husband, Mark and herchildren Kate, Gustav and Mathilde in Santa Fe) and his daughterValerie Maher (husband Chris and children Milo and Caleb in Taos, NM)and his sister, Mrs. Darlene Lominick.A grave-side service will be held at the New Bethel cemetery nearRossville, TN. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to TheAlzheimers Association, alz.org, or a charity of your choice.
