Amadeo R. Vigil

Amadeo R. Vigil, 90, of Taos passed away peacefully on April 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Amadeo was born in 1928 to Valentin and Elenor Vigil. He was raised in Taos New Mexico and attended Taos High School where he ran track and played baseball, during his spare time he also enjoyed working on cars. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country from 1946 through 1951. During this time he served as a Corporal with the 726th AAA Gun Battalion as a Chief Mechanic. When he returned to Taos he worked at the Conoco Gas Station where he met the love of his life, Amadita Martinez. Amadeo and Amadita married April 21, 1959. Together they had many adventures and celebrated the lives of their three children Anthony, Mark and Lawrence. In 1964 Amadeo joined Zeke Tapia, and Florencio Mondragon to open Zekes Auto Supply. He retired in 1997 at the age of 68. He enjoyed spending his retirement fishing, reading the newspaper, splitting wood and Sunday drives. He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Vigil, parents, Elanor & Valentine Vigil, siblings and in-laws, Rose Maestas, Felimon Guttierez and Gus Garcia. He is survived by his wife, Amadita Vigil, sons, Anthony Vigil (Hilda) and Lawrence Vigil (Michelle), grandchildren, Anthony Vigil (Ami), Victoria Romo (David), Isaiah Vigil and Kevin Vigil, great grandchildren, Antonio Vigil, Gabriella Vigil and David Romo Jr., siblings & in-laws, Stella Guttierez, (Frank Maestas), Frances Faircloth (Ray), Jane Garcia, Pauline Medina (Lolo), Mike Vigil (Lupe), Gilbert Vigil (Clara) and Terry Garduno (Clyde). Amadeo will be forever remembered by his numerous, nephews, nieces extended family and dear friends Rosary will be recited on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taos. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 2 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with interment to follow at the Dolores Cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home, Taos.
