Angelica Medina

Angelica Medina, 88, from Chimayo, NM, passed away on October 30, 2024, due to a short illness. She was born on February 7, 1936, in Coyote, NM, to parents Vicente and Beatrice Martinez. She was married to Johnny Medina on October 25, 1958, at Santa Cruz, NM. 

Angelica was preceded in death by her parents, Vicente and Beatrice Martinez, son, Johnny James (Sonny) Medina, and brother, Vicente Martinez Jr.. 

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Johnny Medina, daughter, Lorna Salazar (Joe), son, Ray Medina, son, Tim Medina (Claudette), grandchildren, Charles Salazar, Adam Salazar, Jacob Medina, Ryan Salazar, Dominic Medina, Kristy Medina, and Mariana Medina, sisters, Cecilia Casias, Connie Vigil, Loretta Martinez, Marcella Garduno, and sisters-in-law, Kathy Durouin, and Liz Jones. 

Angelica was an employee at the Presbyterian Hospital in Espanola, NM for 35 years. She was a lifelong resident of Chimayo and loved the Chimayo Valley. She loved her community, her family, and her friends. As a devout Catholic, she visited our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Fatima, Mexico City, to Our Lady of Guadalupe. She also visited Vatican City, which was very important to her. 

When grandchildren visited her, they could always count on fresh tortillas. In her later life, she enjoyed visiting the Chama Valley with her husband, Johnny. One of her passions was gardening, and she had beautiful flowers throughout her home. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed traveling throughout Northern New Mexico, and Southern Colorado, visiting with Johnny. 

A Rosary will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, NM. Mass of Christian burial to follow at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow the Mass. 

Pallbearers will be Charles Salazar, Adam Salazar, Jacob Medina, Ryan Salazar, Kristy Medina, and Mariana Medina. 

Honorary Pallbearer is Dominic Medina. 

The family would like to thank Martha Bencomo for the loving care she provided to Angelica the three and a half years before her passing. Also, to Breanna Lujan and the Hospice team (ChaCha) for Angelica’s final days of care.
