Angel Trujillo

1932 — November 8, 2018

Angel Romero Trujillo, age 86, of Ranchitos in Taos, New Mexico passed away in Santa Fe, New Mexico on November 8 surrounded by family and friends. The third child of 7 siblings she was raised on her father's sheep ranch in the community of Los Cordovas. Her parents were Tomas Hartt Romero and Beatriz Trujillo. She was a descendant of the original Spanish settlers that came to Northern New Mexico. Although she was brought up in a very rural setting, her parents emphasized education above else. She graduated from Taos High School and after her marriage to Fred C. Trujillo, also of Taos, went on to get her B.A. from Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She was the first person in her family to attend college. For 12 years, she taught health and physical education at Taos High School, sponsored the cheerleaders and coached the girls team in volleyball and track and field. She then taught 6th grade at Taos Middle School for an additional 15 years. She was an avid athlete and coach and her daughter fondly remembers her pitching a shut-out during a league softball game. She was a great educator and fantastic role model, not only for her own children but for the hundreds of students that passed through her classroom. Her motto was that nothing was impossible and that any dream could be achieved. She retired at age 56 and enjoyed a long retirement, traveling the world and enjoying stays and visits from her children and especially her grandchildren. For years she volunteered and participated with the Taos Fiesta Council, Guadalupanas, Catholic Daughters, Sacred Heart Society, the Third Order Franciscans, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She sang in the Spanish Choir. She remained close to all her remaining siblings, speaking to them every day. She was fiercely independent and loved returning to her home and her friends in the warm community she had known all her life in Taos. A true Angel to all off us, her exuberance, joy, kindness and tremendous spirit will live on in all those who loved her. Above all she loved her “Taos”. She is survived by her children, Angelo Trujillo (Annette) and Eileen Trujillo O'Hare (Don), grandchildren, Nathaniel and Tamara Trujillo and Victoria O'Hare. She is also survived by her sisters, Tommie Garcia (Michael), Pauline Wilson (John), Dolores Martinez, brother-in-law Placido Sanchez and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was loved by Janet Hensley, as well as Nastassja and Connor who she considered to be like her grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Bernice Rael, Pearl Winters, Oclides Velasquez, and Ofelia Gutierrez. She was very close to her cousins Diana (ahiiado Rocky) and Lorella and her dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Trujillo, her parents, her sisters Ursula Montoya (brother-in-law Joe) and Maria Francesca (Fanny) Sanchez, her brother Tony Romero (sister-in-law Theodora Romero) and brother-in-law Felipe Martinez. Rosary will be recited on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1:30 PM with Funeral Mass to follow at 2 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
