Angie O. Barela
It is with great sorrow that the family of Angie O. Barela announces her passing at the age of 76. After years of battling with illness, Angie was taken by an angel in the early hours of October 23, 2021, while surrounded by family. Angie was the strongest and most courageous woman we had ever known. She was the kindest, sweetest, and most caring person through her love of her family, her faith, and her dedication to helping others. She donated money to many causes that were dear to her. Angie was preceded in death by her father Jose Dolorez Ortiz, her mother Leocadia Ortiz, her sisters Erlinda Sanchez, Virginia Ortiz, and Delia Marquez, and her brother Rudy Ortiz.
In 1967, Angie married her loving husband Antonio Barela and they were blessed with two beautiful children, Christopher and Victoria Barela. Angie and Antonio were together for 54 wonderful years before she was called to heaven. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and always remember the beautiful soul she was.
Angie is survived by her husband Antonio, who loved her and cared for her through the good and the bad throughout their time together. She also leaves behind her two children, Victoria and Chris (Diana), and her two granddaughters Antonia and Stephanie Barela. She had many family members who cherished her life and will celebrate her memory with us including her sister Rosina Medrano, brothers Robert (Josie) Ortiz , Ramon (Susan) Ortiz, and Benny (Mary) Ortiz, her brother in-laws Manuel Barela and John Sanchez, and sister in-laws Dodie Heimerich, Maryann Martinez, and Helen Ortiz. She was a beloved sister, wife, grandmother and aunt who will be remembered for her strength and courage throughout her lifetime.
A rosary will take place on Tuesday, November 2, at 7:00pm at the Kiva Chapel at Rivera Family Mortuary, and will be followed by a mass on Wednesday, November 3, at 10:00am at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Angie will be buried in a private service with only immediate family at the National Cemetery. We welcome all who knew and cared for Angie O. Barela to celebrate her life and memory with us next week.
