Nita L. Murphy, July 10, 1942-January 31, 2022. Nita passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born to Freddie and Artemis (Schilling) Husser in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up in Hammond. As a child, Nita was a ballerina, tennis player, gymnast and bookworm. She graduated from Southeastern University and went on to be a Marti Gras Princess, race car fan, braided weaver and an unstoppable research librarian in Taos, New Mexico. Nita was the co-author of “A Life in Full: Millicent Rogers”, a member of The Taos Historical and D.H. Laurence Societies. She was passionate about supporting local artists, loved books, a good mystery, Shakespeare, miniatures, and Formula One Racing. Nita was known for her kindness and her love of animals. She is survived by her sister Melida Brick, (Ron), Questa, daughter, Nancy German (Kevin), Maine, grandson Ben German, (Jocelyn) (Norfolk, Virginia) Special thanks to her hospice nurses and caregivers.
