Ann Anthony, age 91, made her peaceful transition on February 20 in Santa Fe. She was born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Pelham, NY. While in high school, she traveled to and fell in love with France, returning many times during her life. As a young mother of two sons, Tom and Rick, Ann helped desegregate schools in Tennessee. Peace and justice were life-long passions along with her love of travel, which took her to many countries, including Benin and Morocco as a Peace Corps volunteer. Over the years, Ann enjoyed living and teaching in Honolulu, HI, St.Croix, Virgin Islands, and Galveston, TX. After visiting son Tom and family in Santa Fe, Ann moved here in the late 1990’s. She was an active member of the community, volunteering at The NM Museum of Art, the Lensic, the Council on International Relations, and teaching ESL at SFCC. She actively worked to establish the Sand River senior cohousing community. Ann is survived by her sons, Tom (Kari Jensen) and Rick (Jane), grandchildren Zoe Hitch (Noel Adams), Fiona Jensen-Hitch, Evan Hitch (Jenny), Amy Hartley (Noel), step-grandchildren Jubal Jensen, Aura Jensen-Curtis and Sonja Campbell, and great-grandchildren: Olivi, Lev, Ben, Charlotte, McKenzie and Joey. She is preceded in death by her parents, and by her longtime companion Howard “Stretch” Johnson. If you wish to honor Ann’s memory, please plant a tree and work for peace and justice.
