Ann Hazleton

d. August 26, 2016

Ann Carroll Hazleton, beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, passed away on August 26th, 2016, surrounded by loving family members, looking out onto her beautiful garden. Its impossible to imagine life without our beautiful Ann, and even more so to try to describe her in a few short sentences~ Our hearts are breaking...we will miss our Annie so much. In essence, Ann Hazleton had a passion for living which encompassed so much in her 81 years on this earth, you could see this in her radiant smile! She was a true dreamer~ and, wonderfully, was able to see many of her dreams come true in her lifetime. Ann had a dynamic intelligence and curiosity, and an inspiring mind which never tired of learning about the world and the lives of other people...she had an insatiable appetite for travel, history, arts & literature, cooking, gardening, music, conversation, and exposure to the vitality and delights of cultural exchange. A graduate of U of California, Berkeley in the early 60's, Ann's dedicated study and love of History and articulate expression made her a wonderful teacher and a life-long learner. Over the years Ann taught History, volunteered as a historical guide, and had her own travel business, leading tours around the world~ particularly to the United Kingdom. Her early determination, was to make sure that her daughter Tracy and son Christopher would have the opportunity to live and study abroad. As a passionate world traveler, this was such a profound, life-changing gift to her children. Ann and her husband Bart would open their doors to people from around the world on an ongoing basis, thus cultivating dear lifelong friends from other countries. Always yearning for something new and interesting....always trying out that new recipe...continually searching for new experiences~ this was Ann. With a lovely sense of mirth (Ann loved to laugh) she could appreciate so much of the humor in life! She loved long , lively conversations around the dining room table....particularly with family members. Ann loved her book club, “The Lovely Lemons”. A voracious reader....her idea of bliss would be to sink into a great book, savoring the chance to discuss and share it later with friends & family. Her great mind was matched by her beauty and elegance.....and graciousness~ a perfect combination for making wonderful friends, and enjoying beautiful experiences with the people she so loved.Being close to her family, and creating special events and festive occasions to gather together was Ann's greatest joy of life. It was so important for her to share meaningful experiences with those most dear to her. Ann was a great animal lover, and always had special dog and cat friends in her life over the years~ hers was a gentle and compassionate soul. Above all, Ann's love of beauty & grace and color, combined with her mastery as a gardener and her creative vision, transformed every place she has ever lived. As the president of the Garden Club of Taos, Ann's true calling and mission to bring beauty to the community was realized with many wonderful projects such as initiating the new tradition of gorgeous hanging baskets of flowers to adorn the town of Taos! She would be amazed to realize how much of a gift she has been to this world, and how much beauty & kindness & wisdom she has brought to life. Truly, Ann has been the greatest inspiration to her immediate family: Her husband Bart Hazleton, daughter Tracy Turner Sheppard, son Christopher Hazleton, brother Thomas Carroll, grandsons Thomas Turner, Charles Turner, Graham Hazleton, Spencer Hazleton, & Gabe Hazleton. Ann felt blessed to have a great daughter-in-law Audrey Hazleton, and son-in-law David Sheppard. Her sister-in-law Sara Beebe was like her own true sister, and her extended family through her brother, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sam Hazleton were very special to her as well. She was also blessed to have wonderful parents, Grace and Dwight Carroll and a very special parents-in-law Sarah & Sam Hazleton. We will miss Annie more that words can express, and forever feel the blessing of her love in our hearts. A special Memorial Service was held at the residence of Bart and Ann Hazleton in Des Montes, New Mexico on September 11, 2016. Donations can be made to honor the memory of Ann Hazleton to the Garden Club of Taos, so that her creative vision can live on and continue to bring beauty to the world. www.gardencluboftaos.org Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
