Ann Pavelko Acrey Age 71, of Taos passed away on September 28, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer and COPD. She is preceded in death by her parents Mary & Mike Pavelko. She is survived by her spouse of 37 years, Carolyn J Johnson, her brother-in-law David H Johnson & family in California and many special friends.Ann was born in Girardville, PA, attended college at Susquehanna University in PA and received her graduate degrees from Purdue University in Indiana with honors. Her first professional job, from 1966 to 1970, was as the assistant director of the Head Start program in Hawaii.In 1971 Ann settled in California and worked for many years as a school psychologist at the San Lorenzo School District specializing in Special Education Student Assessment. After retirement Ann & Carolyn moved to Taos in 2003, and Ann performed some Special Education testing for the Taos school district. She was very active in the formative years of the Taos PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) organization and also a board member of the California chapter of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) while living in California. Ann & Carolyn became members of the Taos Archaeological Society in 2004 and Ann was secretary of TAS at the time of her death. Should friends wish to honor her life, donations may be made in Anns name may be made to the Taos Community Foundation, 114 Des Georges Pl, Taos NM 87571. On December 6th, 2015 there will be a Celebration of Life to honor Ann.
