Ann Stanciu

March 9, 1937 — April 14, 2024

Ann Cornelia Stanciu, 87, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024 after a long illness at the home she and her husband, George N. Stanciu, built together. Ann was born in Toledo, Ohio, on March 9, 1937, to Walter and Isabelle Pasche. She attended nursing school in Indiana and proudly served as a registered nurse for many decades. In Ann Arbor, Michigan, she met George Stanciu, the love of her life. They married in 1963. Together, the couple raised three children, Tanya Stanciu (Yuji Shinozaki) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Brett Stanciu of Hardwick, Vermont, and Nikolai Stanciu of Conway, New Hampshire. Ann’s professional life spanned many years at Elliott Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, and St. Vincent’s in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her nursing skills included pediatric, cardiac, and psychiatric care. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, Ann was a force of nature. She was tough beyond measure with a streak of adventure and humor. She passionately loved the great things in her life — her family, New Mexico, her home and garden — and the small pleasures of green chili cheeseburgers and playing Hearts. Her talents were numerous, particularly in quilting. She was predeceased by her parents and her two sisters, Nancy Richardson of New York City and Suzanne Payne of Florida. In addition to her beloved husband, Ann leaves behind her three children and four grandchildren, Molly and Gabriela Stanciu of Vermont, and Yasuhiro and Kazuo Shinozaki of Virginia. The family gratefully appreciates the kindness of many people who made Ann’s illness more comfortable. Among these are Dr. Diana Miller, Theresa and Antoinette Beltran, and staff at Del Corazon Hospice and Biscochito Homecare. The family requests no flowers. Cards may be mailed to George Stanciu, 2 Enebro Place, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87508.
