Anthony Fristachi

September 8, 1958 — October 15, 2022

Anthony “Tony” Frank Fristachi Jr. unexpectedly but peacefully passed away on October 15, 2022 at the age of 64. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 8, 1958.

A testament to the Italian heritage of which he was so proud, Tony loved cooking elaborate meals from scratch and filling rooms with raucous laughter. Although his family moved to New Jersey in 1974, Tony always fondly spoke of his New York beginning. He was a devoted member of the Brotherhood of the Freemasons, serving in many capacities up until his death, and he served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer from 1977 to 1979.

Tony was preceded in death by his loving parents Angela “Lee” and Anthony Fristachi Sr.

He is survived by his wife Sheridan Barnes (m. 2009) and daughter Dillon Barnes, as well as his sister Diane Fristachi, Aunt Esther Sebesto, Uncle Joseph Rizzi, and a number of first, second, and third cousins. Additionally, he is remembered by his Brothers of the Freemasons, and many other friends and loved ones.

An animal-lover since boyhood, Tony had several dogs and cats throughout his life, as well as a turtle, a monkey, and a python. His most recent companion was Booker, an energetic and doe-eyed boxer who is an equal mix of sweet and crazy, just like his favorite person. Tony had a colorful sense of humor, and told many jokes of which we dare not repeat here. He also enjoyed things of high-quality, from tomato sauces and motorcycles to cigars and computers. In spirit, Tony personified one of his favorite pagan deities from the Hindu pantheon, Ganesh the elephant god, in his strong will and his ability to overcome obstacles. Loved ones also describe him sharing the spiritual energy of another god he liked, Pan.

He lived as a modern nomad for most of his life, and traveled as far as Germany, Panama, Japan, and more. Tony worked a variety of jobs, such as a technician for theatre and concerts, and a teacher of statistics. Later on he found his path in life, completing his higher education at John’s Hopkins Bloomberg School Of Public Health and receiving a Master’s degree in Health Science. He then worked as an epidemiologist for the U.S. EPA, and Departments of Public Health in California and New Mexico, where he created an impact alongside his colleagues in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to improve the lives and health of all Americans. In addition to finding this altruistic career path, Tony’s heart was taken by beautiful New Mexico where he could enjoy the awe-striking sunsets, outdoors, camping, and hiking, and he lived there until his passing.

Tony will be laid to rest along with the ashes of his beloved dogs Blitzen, Bella, and Nelson, with a memorial service on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. (MDT) at the Masonic Temple Pajarito Lodge #66, 1400 N Sage Loop, Los Alamos, New Mexico, which will be livestreamed.
