It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother Antoinette Marie (Mals) Sheffield at the age of 74.
Antoinette was born on October 3, 1949 in Dayton, OH to Chester and Betty Mals. Raised in Dayton, Antoinette spent her young adult years working at a local hospital in the newborn nursery. She loved children and had a natural way with them. Vibrant and a true beauty inside and out, she became a member of the High Cincinnatians Tall Club and was crowned Miss Tall International in 1976. She spent the next year traveling around the country as a Tall Club representative.
Antoinette met the love of her life, Richard Sheffield, in Dayton and were married in 1978. They soon moved to Los Alamos, NM, where they lived and raised their family. Antoinette was a wonderful mother, and her priority was caring for and nurturing her children.
Antoinette lived a full life, she could be found playing with the grandchildren, tending to her garden, traveling and hiking with her husband, dancing, or fishing with family and friends. She carried a light and laughter that cannot be replaced and will be eternally missed.
Antoinette brought joy and happiness to those she met. She cared for every child as if they were her own, and everyone knew and loved Mrs. Sheffield. In addition to raising her children, she spent countless years volunteering, whether it be with the Girls Scouts, as a team mom, a religious education teacher, at school functions, or working at the Jemez House thrift store. Selfless, she was always willing to lend a hand whenever help was needed. Ensuring that children all over the World have the best, she worked on creating, illustrating, and publishing “Sizzy Books” phonetic readers with her business partner, Trish.
Antoinette was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Betty (Gosnell) Mals of Dayton, OH. She leaves behind her husband of 45 years Richard Sheffield of Los Alamos, NM, daughters Nicole (Jason) Allen and Angela (Jacob) AlderseBaes both of Los Alamos, NM, and son Michael (Ginny) Sheffield of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren Brayden, Eli, Wesley, Sebastian, Grace, Hendrix, and Vaughn. She is also survived by her brothers Philip (Deborah) Mals of OH, David Mals of CO, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
