Antonio Abad Martinez Jr. "ABIE"

1942 — February 20, 2025

On February 20, 2025, the Lord called upon His son Antonio Abad Martinez Jr. “ABIE” to continue his service according to His plan, with a greater purpose away from this world.

Antonio, 82, was born and raised in Taos, NM, on March 26, 1942, to Josephina and Abad Martinez. After graduating from Taos Central Catholic High School, he continued his education at NMSU in Las Cruces, NM. Antonio went on to serve his country in the United States Navy, fulfilling his obligation and being honorably discharged after 6 years, ultimately stationed in San Diego, CA. He remained in California, where he met his “Queen of Hearts,” Miss Dalia Perez from Santa Rosa, TX, in 1974 and married in 1976. In 1977, their first son, Randy, was born, followed by their daughter, Mandy, in 1979. By 1980, unable to resist the beauty of Taos, he returned home and began building the family home with help from family and friends. Shortly after its completion, his youngest son, Danny, was born in 1981. Antonio spent the rest of his days in Taos, serving God, catering to his loving wife, and setting a righteous example both inside and outside the home. For 42 years, he commuted to the Los Alamos National Labs, where he worked as a machine shop inspector. He always sought the best in everything and made people laugh in his own unique way. His hobbies included collecting thousands of rocks, hundreds of trees, and sewing countless seeds, flowers, and vegetables, all meticulously placed throughout the yard. His green thumb never failed, and his creativity never disappointed. Always the patriot, he admired the bald eagle and flew his American flag until the very end.

Antonio is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Dalia Martinez, his 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

The pending celebration of his life has been entrusted to Rivera Family Funeral Homes.
