Leo of Bloomfield, NM, formerly of Santa Fe, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was born to Jose Elfido Vigil and Marina Martinez on March 23, 1923 in Espanola, NM, and was raised in Velarde, NM. He graduated from Espanola High School and attended college, then was drafted into the United States Army. He served overseas and was honorably discharged in 1949 at the rank of Sergeant. He was a WWII Veteran and a life member of the VFW and worked for the State of New Mexico and other private companies during his working career.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt, and spent much time with family and friends making good memories for all. Leo is preceded in death by his mother and father, his first wife Tessie and subsequent wife Albina. Leo is also preceded in death by his brothers, Elfido, Raymond, Ross, George and Jose Vigil; sisters Lila, Lydia, and Carmen; his son Philip Vigil and son-in-law Robert Martinez.
He is survived by his brothers, Pete, Sam, and Danny Vigil; his children, Anita Martinez, Leo (Denise), Marina Chism (Bobby), Ed (Darlene), Fred (Karen), and numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family members and friends.
A special thank you to Wendy, Diane, Alfreda with Guardian Angel Home Health, and all who loved and helped care for Leo over the years.
A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Fe. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a Monday, March 7, 2022 also at our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and interment with Military Honors following at 10:30 am at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Christopher Vigil, Ed Vigil, Fred Vigil, Bobby Chism, Miguel Garcia, and Elias Griego.
