Antonio Sanchez Jr., 89, of Santa Fe, NM, passed away on January 5, 2012 due to a short illness. He was born on August 24, 1922 in Waldo, NM to Concepion Ortega and Antonio Sanchez Sr., and married Eugenia Sandoval on July 20, 1942 in Santa Fe, NM. Antonio is preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia Sanchez, grandson, David Valdez, and brother, Felix Sanchez. He is survived by his son, Severo Sanchez, daughters, Gloria Sisneros and Beatrice Sanchez, son, Frank Sanchez, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, sisters, Dolores Lopez (Tony), and Metrita Quintana and husband, nephews and nieces. Antonio served in the US Army as PVT Infantry basic and PFC rifleman. He was awarded WWII victory medal, Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster, European African Middle Eastern theatre ribbon with three bronze battle stars.
A visitation and rosary were held on January 11, 2012 at the Rivera Family of Santa Fe Funeral Options Chapel. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on January 12, 2012 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis de Assisi. Interment followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
