Antonio L. Tony Romero, 91, of Llano Quemado passed away on April 5, 2014. He was an Army veteran of WWII in the Pacific and was a recipient of many military honors, including a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. After Tonys enlistment in the United States Military, he returned to Taos, where he was employed as a bus driver for over 30 years. He continued to be a proud member of the DAV and VFW for the remainder of his life. After his military service, he continued to partake in his community as a member of the St. Francis Church and Llano Quemado Capilla as a mayordormo, along with his wife, Eliria. He had the honor of serving as a mayorodomo of the Llano Quemado Camposanto, the Francisco Martinez Ditch Commission and the El Salcito Ditch Commission. He was also a life member of the SPMDTU. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eliria D. Romero, son, Leo Romero, granddaughter, Lisa Romero, parents, Juan Ignacio and Manuelita Romero. He is survived by his children, Dolores Pacheco (Gilbert) of Llano Quemado, Avan Romero of Los Angeles, CA, and Patrick L. Romero (Sonia) of Florida, grandchildren, Manuel Pacheco, Tony and Frankie Romero and Gilbert Pacheco Jr. (Jill), great granddaughter, Amanda Pacheco and many other relatives and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. We are very proud of the legacy he leaves behind and look forward to carrying on his name and traditions into the future.
Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 1-3 at Rivera Chapel.
Rosary was recited on April 9, 2014 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass was held on April 10, 2014 at San Francisco de Asis Church with interment following at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
