Arthur Leyba, Jr.

Arthur (Art) Leyba Jr. (55) passed away on September 9, 2016. He was born in Santa Fe to Arthur and Casilda Leyba. Art graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1979. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army and served from June 1, 1979 - May 31, 1982. He was an Armor Crewman and was assigned to C Company 4/63rd Armor - 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas. Upon his return he worked as a cook at Garrett's Restaurant and then for the Santa Fe Adult Detention Center as well at the Santa Fe Penitentiary. Art enjoyed drawing and was extremely good at it. He also enjoyed all types of movies. He enjoyed sharing stories with his family and friends even though at times they were slightly exaggerated. He is survived by his daughter Melissa Leyba. Audrey Martinez and two granddaughters Yareli and Daleysa; sisters Carmen and Bernadette Leyba; brother Gilbert Leyba (Maria); nephews Gary (Charlette), Gilbert, Michael Leyba; Richard, David and Jason Quintana; niece Lilly Quintana and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father and mother Arthur Leyba Sr. and Casilda Leyba, grandparents Thomas Leyba Jr. and Aurora Leyba, Jose Luis and Eufemia Martinez. Uncle Thomas Leyba Jr., Louie Dunaway, Lorenzo Martinez and Aunt Amelia Dunaway. Visitation and Rosary will be held at the San Isidro (little church), Wednesday, September 21 starting at 6:30 pm. Mass will be on Thursday at 12:00 at San Isidro and burial will follow at the National Cemetery with military honors and committal service.
