Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Arthur J. Lucero, Jr. (“El Junior”) was called by our Lord on September 9th, 2021. He was born on September 13th, 1933 to Arturo Lucero, Sr. and Lena Varela Lucero. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Pauline Otero.
Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn, of 65 years of marriage. Their life together was filled with love, laughter and dancing at a spur of the moment. He is also survived by his loving children, Anthony A. Lucero (Susan), Ann Gomez (Joseph); four grandchildren, Patrick A. Gomez (Monique), Marissa M. Deschler (Eric), Patricia Lucero (Andre), Dominique Lucero (Nick); three great grandchildren plus twin boys on the way and numerous step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister, Helen Salas of Santa Fe, NM.
Arthur worked for the New Mexico Highway Department serving 33 years of remarkable public service in highway design. Arthur was a lifelong devoted Catholic and lifetime member of the Caballeros de Vargas exceeding 51 years of devotion to Our Blessed Mother and service to the community. He participated in the Caballeros’ production of the Los Tres Reyes Magos play, as producer, director and reader for 50 years. His voice was very distinct in portraying the characters of King Herod and court jester Chapin. The Caballeros honored Arthur with a plaque commemorating his dedicated service and achievements.
Arthur had many special cousins and friends, and those he considered brothers, Fred Aragon, Larry Pacheco, Sr. and Leroy Ortiz.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Philip Trujillo, Mel Gallegos, Richard and Sofie Valencia. The Holy Rosary will be recited by the Caballeros de Vargas at 6PM Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Rivera Family Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 12 noon Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at St. Anne’s Parish followed by burial services at Rosario Cemetery. Pallbearers: Joseph Gomez, Louis Silva, Jr., Clifford Otero (ahijado), Robert Ward, Larry Pacheco, Jr. (ahijado), Robert Gallegos. Honorary Pallbearers: Andre Moore, Michael Gallegos, Christopher Ward, David Martinez (ahijado), Dianne Martinez (ahijada), Barbara Padilla, Janette Silva, Sonya Carillo, Sharon Chavez, Anthony Christopher Barela, Steve Barela.
