Barbara Boyd Richardson
Barbara passed away at home with family by her side on June 8, 2018. Barbara was an only child born on March 7, 1931, to Cal and Fern Boyd in Albuquerque, NM. Her father’s job with the Charles Ilfeld Company moved them to Santa Fe and she graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1948. She attended both Colorado Women’s College and the University of New Mexico. She married James Richardson in 1951 and moved with him throughout New Mexico as he worked with Mountain Bell. During this time, they started their family and had two daughters. In 1959, they happily moved to Santa Fe where they added a third daughter to their family. In the 1960’s, they moved into a house that Jim and Barbara designed and built themselves. They lived there until Jim’s death two years ago.
Among Barbara’s many interests and talents through the years included her participation in the Sweet Adelines Women’s Singing Group and Junior Women’s Club, leadership in the Girl Scouts and active participation in the PTA while her daughters were growing up. She loved to paint and create art in many forms, she was an avid gardener, she played bridge with the same group of friends for over 50 years, and happily raised her children. She entered the workforce full time as her children grew and worked for the Walton Chapman Company for many years. After both she and Jim retired, they travelled and enjoyed their children and grandchildren. She was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. Barbara loved people and she loved to laugh.
She is survived by three daughters, Debra Pritchard (Bob), Janet DiJanni (John), and Susan Petcoff (Matt), grandchildren, J.J. and David DiJanni and Katy and Libby Petcoff, her beloved cousin Nancy Kozikowski, cousin Dan Griffith, the nieces and nephews that became her family by marriage, many friends, and her dog, Luna.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at the Kiva of Light Chapel, 417 East Rodeo Road, Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Girls, Inc., 301 Hillside Avenue, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
