Barbara Liston was a beloved matriarch and a bad-ass spitfire. She was kind and thoughtful to others, but also fiercely protective of her family and loved ones. A lioness protecting her cubs is the image that comes to my mind. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Barb knew that her petite frame gracefully concealed a woman full of tremendous strength, vigor, and resilience. Barbara bartended at local bars in Los Alamos, NM to provide for her two sons, Michael and Nathan. She spent her life working with incredible ethics and integrity to make sure her sons did not have to go without. Her greatest solace in life was the profound love and adoration she shared with her family and friends. Her sons, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and countless chosen family members were the motivating factors behind her tenacity. She loved her family and friends with every ounce of her being and she would give what she could at any given moment to help a loved one in need. While the imperfections of life were not always easy to handle, the deep love that she felt for her children, and the profound love they will always have for her, has transcended beyond all past hurts and heartaches. She spent her final days watching the gorgeous mesas outside her windows and tending to the flowered plants outside her home, surrounded by the serene landscapes of New Mexico. As hard as it is to say good-bye, we know her spirit is soaring the heavens, laughing and joyful as she reunites with her loved ones that passed before. May her spirit shine down from the heavens, illuminating the loss we feel in our hearts, and replacing the pain with a love not bound by time or space.
