Barbara Rose Uher, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on September 3, 2024 following a lengthy illness.
Barbara was born in the Bronx, New York, to Rose and Robly Lehecka. She married the love of her life, Joseph (Joe) L. Uher on April 7, 1956 in Bohemia, New York. Barbara worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. Together with their four children, Barbara and Joe moved to Los Alamos in October 1969. She worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory until her retirement. Barbara and Joe lived in Florida, Texas, and finally settled in Pueblo West, Colorado, where she was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. After moving back to Los Alamos she was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She was devoted to her family and enjoyed many things, including counted cross stitching, reading, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, yard sales, cooking Czech meals, collecting Hummels, traveling, dancing with Joe, and spending time with family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joe Uher, her brother Jerry Lehecka, and her grandson Michael Volz. She is survived by her brother Ted Lehecka, her sister Carol Sandon, sister-in-law Pat Lehecka, her four children Kenneth Uher (Jean), Jane Volz (Scott), Linda Uher, Thomas Uher (Jaime), four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Nuclear Care Partners nurses, the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses, and Linda Uher for Barbara's excellent care throughout her battle with cancer.
