Barry Smock, 73, of Santa Fe, NM, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Barry was born on March 28, 1951, in Illinois, to Junior Smock and Martha Jean (Cabbage) Smock. He graduated from Russellville High School in Russellville, KY. Barry served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War as a radioman and forward observer. He received an Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Conduct (ARCOM), as well as grenade and rifle marksman awards. After his service, Barry had a long and successful career as a Tinsmith in the HVAC industry, earning numerous certifications in fabrication and safety techniques before retiring as a respected safety inspector.
In 1996, Barry married Francine Vitetta, and they shared 18 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on October 26, 2014. He was a devoted father to Brie Anaya, Kristen Stenseth, and Frank Succardi (and his wife Brandie); and a beloved grandfather to Vivian Anaya and Megan Stenseth.
Barry was compassionate, hardworking, and had a heart of gold. He loved spending time with his family, working on DIY projects, and caring for his beloved dogs. Barry had a passion for puzzles and games, enjoying sudoku, crossword puzzles, poker, and card games. He also loved to grill and was famous for his delicious meatloaf. An artist at heart, Barry created decorative lamp covers that can be seen in high-end hotels, restaurants, museums, and homes around Santa Fe. Barry cherished his siblings and called them every week to stay in touch. Always ready with a joke and a helping hand, Barry will be remembered as a kind and loving man with a special affinity for animals.
Barry is survived by his children, Brie Anaya, Kristen Stenseth, and Frank Succardi (and his wife Brandie); his grandchildren, Vivian Anaya and Megan Stenseth; and his siblings, Donna Ezell, Joni Davis, and Troy Smock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francine; his parents, Junior Smock and Martha Jean (Cabbage) Smock; and his brother, Todd Smock.
A memorial service will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe on June 14, 2024, at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barry's name to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter.
Barry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, kindness, and brilliance will live on in our hearts forever.
