In Loving Memory of
Beatrice Marie Watkins
1953 – 2025
Beatrice “Bea” Marie Watkins, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Bea graduated from New Bedford High School and went on to earn her degree in Teaching and Psychology from Southeastern Massachusetts University. In 1975, Bea and Russ made a new home in New Mexico, where they raised their family with unwavering love and devotion.
After the birth of their first child, Bea dedicated many years to working as a housekeeper, building lasting relationships with clients who quickly became like family. Her strong work ethic, warm spirit, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Bea will be remembered most for her generous heart, loyal nature, and contagious positivity. Her strength in the face of life’s challenges was admired by all who knew her. She adored her children and grandchildren and never hesitated to put their needs before her own. Bea especially loved spending time with her grandchildren—playing with them, encouraging them, and celebrating their accomplishments. She took great joy in spoiling them and always made sure to reward their hard work and good grades.
A woman of many passions, Bea loved gardening, swimming, dancing, shopping, and simply enjoying the beauty of everyday life. Her joyful energy and zest for living made every moment with her a cherished one.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents George and Cedea (Verville) Dube and Frederick and Clara (Sylvia) Catterall; her parents Joseph and Alice Sylvia; and her siblings Artist Zingaro and Alice Sylvia.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 48 years, Russell Watkins; her children, Justin Watkins (Stephanie) and Kameka Smyth (Lawrence); her grandchildren, Mariah Gutierrez (Estevan), Evan Watkins, Tamiera Smyth, and Elijah Watkins; her great-grandson, Luka Gutierrez; and many loving family members and friends.
A Rosary followed by a Funeral Mass in Bea’s honor will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
Though she is no longer with us, Bea’s light lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and joy will never be forgotten.
Mom we will miss you dearly, love you always, and hold your memory close until we meet again!
