BEATRICE ORTIZ GARCÍA Beatrice Ortiz Garc¡a passed away on Friday, September 29th at home surrounded by family. A lifelong Santa Fe resident, she was the great-granddaughter of Don Gaspar Ortiz for whom Don Gaspar Avenue is named. Her grandfather seven times removed, Nicol s Ortiz Ni¤o Ladr¢n Guevara, came to Santa Fe in 1692 with Don Diego De Vargas. The Ortiz Room at the Hilton Hotel is named for her family. Bea was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Union Protectiva Femina, Catholic Daughters and the Alter Society of the Basilica Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi. In 2009, she was named Volunteer of the Year for her thirty plus years as a docent at the cathedral. She worked as the Cafeteria Manager of St. Francis Parochial School for 18 years and retired from the Santa Fe Public Schools. She is preceded in death by her son Ralph and husband Cleof s Garc¡a. She survived by her son Bill Garc¡a, niece Angela Pacheco and her favorite niece and goddaughter, Ana Pacheco. In addition, she is survived by numerous relatives of the Ortiz and Garc¡a family lines. Services will be held on Friday, October 6th at the Basilica Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi. The rosary will be held at 9:00am followed by the funeral mass at 10am.
