Ben Martinez

Ben E. Martinez was born on January 15, 1962, and died on August 26, 2023, in his home in Tijeras.  Ben was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Martinez and mother Maida Martinez.  He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Anna Castellano (Alex), Carlos Martinez (Lita), David Martinez (Virginia) and Patty Romero (Rick); nieces and nephews: Leon Castellano, Deanna Eylicio (Ramon), Anika Martinez (Marshall), Matthew Martinez (Annette), Ashley Kesler (Shawn), Allison Martinez (Chris), Lynette Romero, Nicole Romero (Pat); great nieces and nephews: Isaiah Eylicio, Sienna Eylicio, Izaak Martinez, David Kesler, Alyssa Kesler, Autumn Abbo, Ryan Hoggan-Romero (Godson and pallbearer).

Ben was a Draftsman by trade.  He designed many beautiful homes among other structures.  He attended Cristo Rey School kindergarten through 8th grade, attended Santa Fe High School, and received his certification from the Technical Vocational Institute in Albuquerque, NM.  Ben worked for BPLW Architects Engineers Inc., Smith Engineering and Charles Otero Architects, as well as other companies.  

Ben was known as “little” Ben by his immediate family.  He was a caring, compassionate, loving and humble man.  He loved Northern New Mexico Spanish music and enjoyed New Mexican food.  The outdoors was where his heart was, but his cabin in Tijeras was where he loved it the most.  He was so proud of all the renovations he had done to his home, his sanctuary.  He loved talking about Northern New Mexico culture with anyone who would listen.  He loved conversing and reminiscing with his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives.  Family was very important to Ben.  Ben valued family traditions and was supportive of his family.  Ben made everyone feel special and always gave his full attention.

When taking care of his mom and dad for so many years, which he did with so much love and tenderness, he often liked to sleep on the grass in their backyard under the stars.  Seeing Ben barefoot around the house was not uncommon, inside or outside even when there was snow on the ground.

Ben was unique to everyone in a special way.  The angels came to take our “little” Ben away from us too soon.  He will be in our hearts forever. We love you, Ben.

A Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 10:00am at Cristo Catholic Parish with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am.

Burial will take place at a later date.
