Bernardina (Ina) Gurule

Bernardina Maria Benita (Ina) Valdez Gurule, age 89, of Ojo Caliente, passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 22, 2021.

She is preceded in death by Husband Gilbert Gurule, father Eliazar Valdez. Mother Bernadina Martinez, step-mother Rosa Valdez, brothers Elivie Valdez, Rudy Valdez, Eddie Barela, sister Elizabeth Lobato, father-in-law Estevan Gurule, mother-in-law Manuelita Gurule, daughter Peggy Gurule, as well as two infant daughters, son Edward Gurule, as well as one infant son, and grandson Carlos Gurule.

Ina is survived by her two grandsons (raised as her own sons) Fernando (Rachel) Gurule of Acones, NM, and Jerome Gurule of Ojo Caliente, NM, sons Silver (Barbara) Gurule, of Cochiti, NM, Ernest (Gail) Gurule of Ojo Caliente, and daughter Caroline Gurule of Ojo Caliente. Also surviving are siblings Arturo Amos Valdez, Anastacio (Marcella) Valdez, Martha Savala, Dolores Valdez, Consuleo (Alex) Valdez, brothers-in-law Estevan Gurule, Jr. Orlando (Ruth) Gurule, Benjamin (Emma) Gurule, and sister-in-law Pearl (Ed) Garcia, as well as Mildred Ayotte. Ina was also blessed by 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

A private viewing for family will be held at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola on Thursday, March 4 2021 from 6 pm to 7 pm, followed by a public viewing from 7pm to 8 pm. Ina will be buried privately with family only on Friday March 5, 2021 at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3 pm.
