Bernard Allen Wolfe
February 7, 1939 – June 23, 2023
Bernie Wolfe, 84, passed away with loved ones by his side on June 23, 2023 at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He was born on February 7, 1939 to Benjamin Wolfe and Ida Ruttenberg Wolfe in Chicago, IL. He is survived by his “one and only” daughter Rachel Lee Wolfe Goodman, son-in-law Brant Goodman, granddaughters Sage and Sierra Goodman, longtime love Susan Kirschner and loving former wife Karen Wolfe-Mattison.
He attended Lakeview High School and remained close with many of his childhood friends, most of whom have been waiting for him to join them. He grew up with a love of all sports but especially baseball and the Chicago Cubs. He remained a devoted Cubs fan his entire life and attended game 5 of the World Series in 2016 with his daughter. He was passionate about history, especially World War II history. He was well-read and had a very sharp mind, always willing to see all sides of an issue.
He graduated from Kent Law School and built three successful law practices during his career, earning his nickname, “Bernie the Attorney.”
He moved to New Mexico with Karen in 1979 and had his daughter Rachel. He moved back to Chicago in 1991, where he eventually met the love of his life, Susan, in 2002. He then returned to New Mexico in 2017 to assume his role as the best Pops there ever was. He was well known for his humor and contagious laugh. He became a kind, gentle and loving father, grandfather, partner and friend. He maintained a strong connection to his entire extended family. He will forever be remembered for the grace and dignity in which he carried himself until the very end. He upheld a strong and proud devotion to his Jewish roots and passed these on to his daughter and granddaughters. May his memory be a blessing. Go Cubs, Go!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Yad Vashem in Israel or The Santa Fe Jewish Center.
