It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, BERNICE TORRES FLOREZ, age 55, of Mesilla on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. She was born June 8, 1958 in Taos to Fermin and Irene Marquez Torres. Bernice was an elementary school teacher, a very devoted and active member of the Roman Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Those left to mourn her passing include her loving husband of twenty-five years, Gary Florez of the family home; a son, Steven Florez; a daughter, Brittnee Florez all of Las Cruces; parents, Fermin and Irene Torres of Taos; four brothers, Larry Torres, Rey Torres and wife Georgia, all of Taos, Andy Torres and wife Cecilia of Penasco, Patrick Torres and wife Eileen of El Rancho; two sisters, Lucille Briseno and husband Lonnie, and Frances Padilla and husband, Jerry all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include her parents-in-law, Abel and Armida Florez, brother-in-law, Daniel Florez, and sister-in-law, Laura Florez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernice was preceded in death by her brother, Phil Torres and a brother-in-law, Steven Florez.
Visitation and Prayer Vigil were held on October 28, 2013 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina Street in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Funeral Mass was held on October 29, 2013 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catherdral. Interment followed at the Masonic Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Rey, Andy and Patrick Torres, Phillip Padilla, Cory Gillespie, Christopher Florez and Diego Briseno.
A ROSARY WAS HELD ON NOVEMBER 3, 2013 AT THE HOLY TRINITY CHURCH IN ARROYO SECO.
