Betty Jean Bustos

Betty Jean Bustos, fondly known as "Grandmother Jean", aka "Adasti Gadahee", passed away June 3rd, 2022 at her home in Taos, New Mexico. She was a fiery Cherokee medicine woman and crystal healer. She was also a long standing member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, since 1955. Her deep reverence for the Creator allowed her to integrate both paths.

Betty Jean was born the 2nd daughter of Eddie De Aguero Sr. and Maria Louise Montez in San Antonio, Texas via Oklahoma. She was married off at a tender young age. She gleaned a lot of wisdom from a challenging 1st marriage and raising a brood of 5 energetic children. She and her 1st husband owned and operated a high end shutter manufacturing company in Los Angeles, CA. After divorcing, Betty Jean and the children moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she studied to become a nurse. She later met and married her beloved soulmate J. Hector Bustos, a talented painter, accomplished musician and gourmet cook from Columbia. She also worked for a Las Vegas newspaper writing reviews for many Vegas establishments selling and advertising, and was a well connected teetotaler in Sin City. She was a very savvy business woman, affable, enterprising and charismatic. Later, she & Hector migrated to Miami for several years, before eventually settling in Taos, NM.

During the 2nd half of her life "Grandmother Jean" traveled abroad extensively leading sacred ceremonies and teaching crystal healing workshops. She met and befriended various tribes from around the world including the Aboriginal peoples in Australia, the Maori in New Zealand, the Sami in Sweden, as well as members of the Tewa, Mohawk, and Lakota tribes in North America.

She proudly served as an "ambassador of peace" delivering Proclamations of Peace from the Taos Mayor's Office to many cities around the globe. Grandmother Jean remained sharp, funny, very supportive and interested in her community, and was filled with gratitude despite her difficult struggle with cancer. She lived her life with incredible gusto, passion, and always extraordinary fashion. She will be greatly missed, yet never forgotten by all who loved her.

Grandmother Jean is survived by 4 of her 5 children. Russell Garcia, Ted Garcia, Rodney Garcia, Betty Jean Erskine, step-daughter Gloria Bustos, several grandchildren, as well as a devoted community of friends. She is preceded in death by her son Gary "Jonathan" Garcia, and her late husband J. Hector Bustos, and dear friend Anthony "Tony" Hollenback.
