Betty Newman age 90 of White Rock, N.M. passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 due to natural causes. She was born April 28, 1924 and raised primarily in Decatur, Illinois. After general schooling she studied Opera before marring Thomas C. Newman in 1945. As an Army wife she traveled the world, raised a family of five while performing for many dignitaries and later sang with the San Francisco Symphony Bach Choir. She most recently worked and retired from The Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory after 20+ years. She enjoyed music, art, antiques, and archeology. Betty was a wonderful friend and loving mother, she possessed a tenacious inner strength, great sense of humor and was a bright shining light to all who crossed her path.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Pettenuzo, parents, Veda Allen Eckhardt and Bernice Paul Tope, and sister, Paula Elizabeth Ringer (Toby).
She is survived by her sons: Robert Newman and Paul Newman of California, daughters: Carol Lyles of Virginia, Elizabeth Garner of New Mexico, grandchildren: Sarah, Chandra, Ian, Arjuna, Brittany, Natalie, Kevin and Kary, great grandchildren: Pele, Noah, Finnley, Aiden, Michael and Hazel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos, NM at 1p.m.
