Bir Khalsa

April 18, 1946 — August 25, 2022

Bir Singh Khalsa was born April 18, 1946, in Chicago, IL, and died Aurugst 25, 2022 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on August 11th.Bir graduated college in Davenport, IA and taught 4th grade in Chicago for 2 years. He became interested in yoga and moved to an ashram in Houston, TX in 1972 and worked at the ashram business, the Golden Temple Restaurant.From Houston, TX he moved to Phoenix, AZ to study Kundalini Yoga more extensively, where he met and married his wife Bir Kaur in 1973. From then on he lived in several ashrams and started an ashram at Kings Beach Lake Tahoe, CA, teaching yoga all around Lake Tahoe and managing a natural food store there. He and his wife had 2 children while teaching at the Lake Tahoe ashram, Kirpal Singh and Dharma Kaur. He always worked in ashram businesses from then on, from Golden Temple restaurants to fresh juice companies and natural food distributors and stores around the western US. In 1988 he moved his family to Espanola, NM, where they have been active and involved members of the Sikh community and where he established a used car sales business.Bir was a loving and absolutely devoted husband, father and grandfather, giving his all and focusing on the well-being and happiness of his loved ones. He will be profoundly missed by his wife of nearly 50 years and his children Stacie Smith, Kelly Creps, Casey Conway and Dharma Kaur Best and grandchildren Paramanand Singh Best and Ardas Singh BestCremation was performed on August 31st at Rivera Family Funeral Home.There will be a private memorial on Saturday, Sept.10th.
