BRENDA YVETTE SANTISTEVAN PETERS - age 49, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 28th, in Newport News, VA. She is preceded in death by her infant sister, Rubina, her paternal grandparents, Ruben and Ecelia Santistevan, her maternal grandparents, Andres C and Eloisa Maestas; paternal aunts and uncles, Guillermo Santistevan, Feloniz Abeyta, Odilia Trujillo, Candelaria Romero, Viola Chacon and maternal aunts and uncles, Ralph Maestas, Guillerma Romero, Alex Maestas, Orlando Maestas. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Clayton Peters, parents Jose Roy and Esther Santistevan, sisters, Sally Santistevan, Gilda Gonzales (Glenn Santa Rosa, NM), Elizabeth Mondragon (Paul Albuquerque) and Olga M Flores (Brian Albuquerque); six nieces and one nephew, Alicia, Krista, Danica and Celina Gonzales, Andrea and Antonia Mondragon, Veronica and Joseph R Flores (both were also her godchildren) and three grandnephews. Brenda attended Taos Elementary, Taos Junior High and Taos High School from which she graduated in 1981. She enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately after graduation and served for six years. She met her husband, Clayton, also a member of the US Air Force, at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM and they were married on September 13, 1987. She had two stepchildren, Chris and Jessica, and was the very proud grandma of five step-grandchildren. She was an active member of the Comanche Dancers under the direction of Francisco Gonzales for three years. She made a great impression on everyone her life touched and she never failed to make a friend of all those she met. She traveled to many places with her husband during his military service some of these places were Korea, Italy, Panama Canal, Alaska, Maine, Montana, Idaho, Colorado Springs, Curacao, Oman, Ecuador and Virginia. Even after all these travels, she never forgot us here in her native Ranchos de Taos, and came back to visit us as often as she could. We, Brendas family, appreciate all your prayers, kind thoughts, words and actions. Thank you to all of those who helped us with all of the arrangements every one of you will be in our prayers of thanksgiving as we celebrate the life of our wife, daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and grandmother as she continues the rest of her journey in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Rosary was recited on Friday, March 8, 2013. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Church. Interment was held at the Jesus Nazareno Cemetery.
