Carl Kurt Wiehle

December 18, 1921 — September 3, 2018

Carl K Wiehle passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018. He lived a long life of 96 years and was married for 73 years. He was born in Washington D. C. the fourth of seven children to Gertrude Mentzel Wiehle and Alvin V. L. Wiehle. In 1942 he became a Merchant Marine cadet and was a Midshipman and sailed on a troop ship to Casablanca. Later he became a US Navy aviation cadet and became an ensign in the US Navy, fighting with the (VF-5) Squadron Five on a F6F Hellcat and served aboard the USS Lexington. After WWII he married Marian Pitchford from Virginia, went back to school and graduated from UC Berkeley in Civil Engineering. He worked in California as a civil engineer specializing in dynamically loaded structures. He moved the family to NM where he worked at Kirtland Airforce base and after a few years moved to the Bay Area where he worked for SRI in Palo Alto. Later he and Marian moved to Virginia to continue a career working for the DoD in DIA. He was awarded a meritorious civilian service award for analysis of foreign underground structures. He was an extremely smart, caring, patriotic and faithful man with many different hobbies from gardening and taking photos to rebuilding car engines. He and Marian moved to Santa Fe, NM in September of 2015 where they lived at Kingston Residence. He is survived by his wife Marian P Wiehle, two children Yana Merrill, Kurt Wiehle (Spring VanCleve), two grandchildren Riva and Lee Merrill, two siblings Louis Wiehle and Patricia Touloup and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kiva Chapel of Light located at 417 East Rodeo Road Santa Fe, NM with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
