Carlos Cb Trujillo

Carlos Benito Trujillo “CB”, age 85 passed away peacefully on Monday November 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Luis Ambrosio Trujillo and Crecensia Grace Gonzales Trujillo. He is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son Martin Victor Trujillo, brother Felix Trujillo, niece Amy and siblings Clarita and Antonio. CB is survived by his beloved Anna Martinez, his sons Steve Trujillo (Debie), Michael Trujillo, Jeff Trujillo, Henrietta Christmas (Walter), Antonio Martinez (Jacquie) and Karen Martinez (Alfred Armijo). He was a proud grandparent of eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a loving brother to, Tony Trujillo (Ellen), Levi Trujillo (Doris) and sister-in-law Elizabeth Trujillo (Ernest) and many nephews and nieces. CB, as he was fondly known, was born in Topeka, Kansas and was a long-time Taos county resident. He attended schools in Taos and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 1956. He was the first alumni to receive the distinguished Alumni Award at NM Highlands and a long-time supporter of the University. A US Naval Veteran (he served four years on various naval ships). CB taught school in Pecos, New Mexico and West Salem, Illinois from 1956-1962. In 1962 he received his Master’s degree at New Mexico Highlands University. He returned to Taos where he became Taos County’s long-time State Farm Insurance Agent from 1962-2002. His political career as a New Mexico State Senator began in 1966 and continued through 1980 where he advocated for his beloved northern New Mexico counties that he represented. He chaired the powerful Legislative Finance Committee and was the Majority Floor Leader during his time at the Roundhouse. He was appointed to the New Mexico Board of Finance by Governor Gary Johnson, where he served for eight years. He worked side-by-side with Anna Martinez on issues related to Taos County Social programs, which they both were passionate about. After leaving the Legislature he lobbied for US West for six years during the Legislative sessions. After retirement CB became an investor and cattle rancher; he was a registered member of the New Mexico Cattlegrowers Association and proud of his “Rocking T” Brand. CB was a life-long member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. A rosary was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos on Monday, November 27th at 6:00 pm and a Memorial Mass in celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, November 28, at 10:00 am to be followed by internment at Sierra Vista Cemetery. He will be greatly missed. The family of CB Trujillo ask that memorial contributions be directed to Taos Community Foundation in his name.
