Carolyn Asp, 74, a six year resident of Santa Fe, died at St. Vincent's Hospital on December 20th after a brief illness.
Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin to John and Genevieve Asp, Carolyn entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart at age 18 and remained a member for 20 years. During that time, she earned a Ph.D from the University of Chicago and taught at the order's schools.
In 1971, she joined the English Dept. faculty at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and taught there for 32 years. She retired as an associate professor in 2003. She was a member of the University's Quarter Century Club.
Carolyn retired to Santa Fe and was a docent at the New Mexico Museum of Art and the Santa Fe Opera. She also taught classes on Shakespeare for Renesan Institute of Lifelong Learning.
Carolyn is survived by her sister Mary Louise and brother-in-law Richard, and a niece and nephew.
Friends may call at Santa Fe Funeral Options on Jan. 4th from 2-4pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church Jan. 5th at 10:00am.
