Carolyn B. Lucero
November 18, 1933 ~ November 19, 2023
On November 19th, 2023, after celebrating her 90th birthday, God called Carolyn home. She was our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will now be reunited with the love of her life, her predeceased husband, Arthur J. Lucero, Jr.
Carolyn was born on November 18th, 1933 to Antonio T. (Tapia) and Sarita (Martinez) Barela. Growing up, Carolyn had a wonderful relationship with her parents, siblings, her “Nana” Julianita Jaramillo and her uncle Tranquilino Jaramillo.
Carolyn attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and later graduated from Loretto Academy in 1953. She cherished her parochial education and was devoted to her Catholic faith. Carolyn prayed for friends and family each day. She had a direct communication line through St. Martha; sharing floral gifts she would receive with her favorite intercessor. Carolyn made it an annual practice to keep track of not only family, but also friends’ and colleagues’ birthdays. We were all blessed to receive a phone call with a Happy Birthday tune and wish each year. Carolyn was a member of the original staff that established “The Bank of Santa Fe” (Early 1960’s). She later became a public servant for the State of New Mexico where she eventually retired as the Deputy Director of the Educational Retirement Board. Carolyn served for several years on the Credit Review and Supervisory Committees of the State Employees Credit Union and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Carolyn is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Arthur J. Lucero, Jr.; and her siblings and their spouses: Roque Barela (Sally), George M. Barela (MaryLou), Lorraine Ward (Paul), and brother-in-law Louis G. Silva, Sr. Carolyn is survived by her loving sister Lucy Silva; children Anthony A. Lucero (Susan), Ann C. Gomez (Joseph), 4 grandchildren: Patrick Gomez (Monique), Marissa M. Deshler (Eric), Patricia Lucero (Andre), Dominique Lucero Huerta (Nick); 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Monday, December 18, 2023, beginning with the recitation of the Holy Rosary by the Caballeros de Vargas at 10:00AM, followed by mass at 11:00AM. Interment will be at Rosario Cemetery at 1:00PM.
