Cathryn Johnson-Kildahl, 74, of Chama, NM, passed away on April 9, 2022.
She is survived by her husband, Nick Kildahl, her daughters Lauren Lawson, Mary Kate Amantea, Sarah Kennedy, and Blair Granum; her sons Jason Amantea and Brett Kildahl; her brothers Marc L and David S Johnson; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Cathryn was born in Galesburg, IL, on May 21, 1947, to Les and Virginia Johnson. She was raised in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1965. She attended two years of college at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, before transferring to St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Davenport, IA. Serving as President of her Class, she graduated in 1969 as a Registered Nurse. Shortly thereafter she married Louis Amantea, a chiropractor living in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1986 she made the decision to divorce and to return to nursing, beginning a fine career in Long Term Care Administration with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s Disease and on Quality of Life. She retired in 2005. She and her husband, Nick, whom she married in 1990, spent their retirement years together in Rio Rico, AZ, and Chama, NM, enjoying many adventures together and developing many warm friendships. Cathryn was an accomplished jewelry-designer and -maker, and she had considerable skill in painting and drawing. She and Nick both loved camping and the outdoors, so they spent considerable time in their RV traveling the United States. Cathryn was not only physically beautiful, but matched this with a warm, kind, and loving inner spirit. She will be dearly and deeply missed.
Sevices are pending at this time. The family of dear Cathryn has entrusted the Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola with their loved one.
