Our dear, sweet mom, Celia Medrano, passed away in the early morning of January 5, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born and raised in Mora, New Mexico, and moved to Santa Fe as a young woman.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Jimmy Medrano, and their first-born son, David, who died shortly after birth. They are survived by their son, Larry (Jonette) Medrano, and daughters, Carol (Rafael) Cisneros, and Joyce (Ty) Paywa, by their three grandchildren: Jessica Medrano (Ernest Saiz), Racquel Paywa, and Alan (Mikayla) Cisneros, and by their four great grandchildren: Autumn, Kylie and Axl Saiz, Celia (Cece) Cisneros, and grand dog, Poppy Paywa.
Celia is preceded in death by her father, Juan Antonio Segura, and her Aunt/Mother and Uncle, Macario and Molly Segura, who helped raise Celia and her brother Frank. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Manuel Segura and her sisters, Julie Huizar and Consuelo Shepherd, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her in-laws and nieces and nephews from the Segura and Medrano Families.
Celia was the bookkeeper and office manager for Landmark Surveys, a business our parents ran together for 40 years. Celia’s financial skills helped keep the business afloat through the challenges of running a business. They were both active in the land surveying community.
Our mom had a smile that could light up a room, and even though dementia slowly started to take her away from us, over the days before her death, she let that smile shine. We were with her in the days leading up to her death, and even though it was difficult seeing her in a diminished state, it was a cherished time. It is a testament to the love she showed us.
She loved our spouses like they were her own children: her daughter-in-law, Jonette, and her sons-in-law, Ty and Rafael. She loved her grandchildren and her great grandchildren who thrilled her and made her face light up.
While we’re overcome with sorrow, we’re happy that she is released from the pain and sorrow of this world. We know she’s in the presence of the Lord, and she’s reunited with our dad and her other family members that she loved and missed.
We love you mom. We miss you, but we look forward to seeing you again.
