Charles Herrera

September 20, 1933 — June 12, 2022

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Charles R. Herrera went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2022.  Charles was an honorable man, husband, father, and grandfather.  He is preceded in death by his parents Cleofus and Martina Herrera, brothers; Jake Herrera and William (Billy) Herrera, and grandson Antonio Herrera. Charles is survived by his wife Priscilla Herrera, children; Carlos, Michael, Martina, and Camille, grandchildren; Dominique, Jolene, Javier, Brittany (Johnny), Brandon, Jacob, and Jerome. As well as siblings Christine Sullivan, Colette Herrera, Louis (Virginia) Herrera, Viola Garcia, Gloria Herrera, Virginia (Sonny) Ortiz, Ray (Dolores) Herrera, Martha Herrera and sisters in law; Irene Herrera and Gloria Keahbone.  Charles was born on September 20, 1933 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A lifelong resident of Santa Fe, he graduated from Santa Fe High School. After High School he went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he pursued his education by receiving a degree in Political Science at the University of New Mexico. He then went on to establish a career at the Highway Department, retiring after 30 years of work. Charles married the love of his life Priscilla, and they spent 58 wonderful years together. They raised four beautiful children, and many grandchildren. The moments that Charles held dear to his heart were going to the casino with his wife and kids, going on walks, reading in his jeep, and having picnics at his ranch with his family.   A Viewing for Charles will be held at Rivera Family Funeral Home, 417 Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505, on July 26, 2022, at 5pm, and Rosary at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on July 27, 2022 at 11:00am, at San Isidro Center. Interment will follow at 1:00pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM, 87501. A reception to follow at Camille’s house. The family asks that those attending please wear a mask.
